OUR STORY...

The company was originally started as Africandles & Chemicals in 1982. Royalties, trademarks and candles were sold under brand name Society. Several additional products were added like the patented Starweld, an anti-spatter compound for welding and registered trademark floor polish, Starwax. We supplied chains such as Checkers, Pick and Pay, Metro Cash and Carry, Trade Centre and Jumbo Cash and Carry as well as several other independent wholesalers. We supplied mostly Gauteng, Orange Free State and Lesotho.

 
In 1994, the business relocated to Pretoria East, where we purchased a 21ha property in Mooiplaats and proceeded to start building the present 1,200m2 facility. Here we introduced candle making and candle moulding machines into the business. The company pioneered the hydraulic lift candle machine concept, which allowed us to capture the African market and diversify into turnkey domestic candle factories. To date, over 25 factories run our machines across Sub-Sharan Africa, with some operating up to 10 machines per shift. This equates to approximately 150 tons of wax per day providing light to many rural communities.

   
The company branched out into the American decorative hand painted candle market, but with the strong Rand, this market was not yet as accessible as we would have liked. 
In 2003, the Company changed its name to African Wax (Pty) Ltd and have been operating under this name ever since. We introduced a range of hand painted and other decorative candles into our product offering including baptism candles, Unity sets for weddings as well as corporate logo advertising candles. Currently, there are very few candles that we cannot produce.
